Nineteen guns, including an AK-47 assault rifle and a shotgun, along with R3 million in drugs, were seized in Goodwood on Saturday, say police.
Flying Squad officers stopped and searched a double-cab bakkie in Athlone and found an unlicensed 9mm firearm, drugs and "a substantial amount of cash", said police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut.
"The 28-year-old driver was arrested and interrogated which led SAPS to an apartment in the Bergzicht complex situated in Goodwood where the search was extended,” he said.
That was where more guns and the “assortment of drugs valued at R3 million” were found, he said.
Police believe the flat, which is leased in the suspect’s name, was used as a storage facility for the drugs and guns.
“As our investigation unfolds, the possibility that more suspects can be apprehended is not excluded,” Colonel Traut said.
