The Black Business Unity non-profit organisation hosted an event in Parow last Thursday, March 20.

The gathering was part of the lead-up to the Black Business Indaba, which will take place in Johannesburg on Wednesday April 30.

“It is the Black Business Indaba to get black business owners and entrepreneurs in one place. That's the aim, that's the movement we are trying to create, to unite black business owners and come up with strategies and solutions for our challenges,” said Andiswa Gqamane, the national coordinator of the Black Business Indaba.

She said they held their first lead-up event in Johannesburg on Tuesday March 11 and the next one was planned for Free State.

The founding-member of the Kasi Economic Warrior and Stokvel, Mike Molloyi, told attendees that it was R50 to join the stokvel.

“The stokvel also gives you a platform where you can create your own store. So you become a member, then you become a vendor… And all of that, we are doing it for only R50 per year.“

He said there is an option for people who want to borrow money and for people who are willing to help township businesses.

United Khula Informal Traders’ Association (Ukita) chairperson, Thozama Gwente, said they were proud for having successfully represented the informal traders to work without having to pay for informal trading permits in the areas such as Khayelitsha and Langa.
