Ten members of the AfriForum’s Kraaifontein neighbourhood watch went through martial arts training on Saturday May 24.
The training session took place at a smallholding near Kanonkop in Durbanville and it was facilitated by the professional instructors from Tru Krav Durbanville.
The training aimed to equip them with self-defence skills and for them to be able to respond to emergency situations efficiently.
The members will receive further training in martial arts this coming weekend.
“When we empower community members with discipline, skills and self-confidence, we build more than just safety – we build resilient communities,” said Jurie Ferreira, AfriForum's district coordinator for the West Coast.
“The Kraaifontein community branch organises similar workshops every two to three months to ensure that neighbourhood watch patrollers receive the necessary skills and knowledge to stay safe, particularly in the event of violent confrontations.”
