Mxoleleni Sikhala, 36, who was convicted of killing two police officers, was sentenced to two life terms for their murders and an additional 47 years’ imprisonment for related offences, including robbery and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The murders occurred while officers Sergeant Mnakwazo Mdoko, 44, and Constable Mninawa Breakfast, 32, were on patrol in Nondakuthini Street, Bloekombos, at about 1:25am in February 2021, according to the Hawks.

“His sentence comes after he was found guilty on Friday, June 13, 2025, on nine of ten counts he was charged with by the Western Cape division of the High Court of South Africa, Cape Town,” said Warrant Officer Zinzi Hani, the Hawks spokesperson.

Sikhala was then sentenced on Thursday, June 19, and declared unfit to possess a firearm.

It was further reported that Sergeant Mdoko and Constable Breakfast were pronounced dead at the scene, and their official firearms were robbed in the early hours of February 28, 2021.

Western Cape Hawks head, Major General Mathipa Makgato, said the sentences handed down by the court aim to serve as a deterrent and highlight the value placed on the lives of those who serve and protect the public.
