The fifth instalment of Cape Town Grassroots will treat spectators to another thrilling showcase of amateur martial arts talent in Melkbosstrand on Saturday May 18.

Behind the scenes, organiser and MMA coach Lyndall Sandenbergh remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of fighters.

Opportunities for up-and-coming fighters are scarce in the city but Cape Town Grassroots is out to change that.

Grassroots events play a pivotal role in the development of MMA, and Sandenbergh says she is committed to providing a platform for aspiring fighters to gain invaluable experience inside the cage.

For many, such an event marks the first step on the path to top-tier promotions such as EFC, UFC, PFL and ONE Championship.

The recent success of Western Cape fighters at the Mixed Martial Arts South African nationals further underscores the province's potential in the MMA world.

With nine SA champions and a total of 15 podium finishes at the recent nationals, the talent pool in Cape Town cannot be denied.

Three athletes from Cape Town are set to compete in the world championships, with two more going to the All-Africa Games. These achievements serve as a testament to the abundance of MMA talent in the city.

For aspiring fighters, the success stories of local heroes provide tons of inspiration. From Dricus du Plessis's UFC gold to Don Madge's impressive performances in the PFL and Bokang Masunyane's rise in ONE Championship, the path to greatness is paved by dedication and early groundwork.

Tickets to this weekend's event are available online at R150 and R200 at the door. The first fight will be at noon. For details contact Sandenbergh on 072 977 0234.
