When the Knox Legacy Series finally kicks off towards the end of February at GrandWest, Cape Town fight fans will get the professional MMA action they have been waiting for. It has been a while since the city hosted top-level MMA bouts, apart from the PFL Africa event that came to Mzansi in 2025.
Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) has not held a show in Cape Town since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The upcoming series will feature a strong local presence, with several Capetonians set to compete. Among them is Jason Mackay, who will make his professional debut after a decorated run in the amateur ranks.
Trained at Madfit, Mackay is no stranger to the South African MMA scene, having earned recognition for his performances at junior level and regional tournaments.
Mackay has often spoken about his goal of competing in Mzansi’s premier MMA promotion and now he finally gets that opportunity.
Fighting in front of a home crowd will give him added support as he steps into the cage, his pro debut could not have come at a better location.
His opponent has not yet been officially announced, at least not at the time of writing, and Mackay revealed before that securing a match proved challenging due to his extensive amateur record and level of experience.
The Knox Legacy Series will feature four championship bouts, with four Capetonians competing for titles, showcasing local talent against some of the top fighters from around the world.
